Things I've been loving
Hello dear ones! Today I thought I’d share some things that have been bringing me comfort and expansion as we ease into fall. This is the season of curling up with new books, inspiring writing, warming foods, puzzles, cakes, and more.
I’ve long loved the work of
and finally started diving into her book, On Our Best Behavior: The Seven Deadly Sins and the Price Women Pay to be Good. It’s so, so good. I can’t wait to dig into the chapter on gluttony and how we deny our own hunger, which is a topic I’ve explored here and here. I’m also thrilled to announce that Elise will be a guest on the MBSF podcast this fall!
I’m fairly obsessed with
’s new cookbook, Tenderheart: A Cookbook about Vegetables and Unbreakable Family Bonds. So far I’ve only curled up with it like a novel, but I’ve tagged several recipes to try, including a Brussels Sprout Tempura Salad (omg) and Longtime Broccoli, in which broccoli is slowly cooked in an oil bath until “unspeakably luxurious.”

was a fascinating look at food culture in prisons from the perspectives of incarcerated people, as well as their loved ones on the outside.
